Engaging ideas, transforming minds

CSPI has more than 30 years of experience providing instructors and students in higher education with books, supplementary materials, and custom coursebooks of outstanding quality and value. Our expert staff can help you discover and develop great course materials, whether it is finding the perfect book, creating a custom textbook from existing materials, or writing your own textbook. CSPI is here to help.

Divisions

CSPI Books provides a unique and independent voice for a wide range of academic and political perspectives that may not be heard within a large multinational or university press. We create books that make a genuine and lasting contribution to the evolution of a wide variety of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. A rigorous peer review process is fundamental to our editorial policy and is one of the key factors in the prestige associated with our company’s name.

Women’s Press, founded in 1972, has played an integral role in the proliferation of feminist writing in Canada. Our press is committed to conserving a space in higher education devoted to gender, sexuality, and women’s studies. We pride ourselves on the quality of our authors and our contributions to the field of feminist scholarship.

CSPI Custom Publishing is Canada's leading coursepack and coursebook publisher. We provide instructors at colleges and universities across Canada with an easy way to choose readings from multiple sources of their choice and combine them into custom course texts. We help instructors develop cost-effective course materials optimized for their course goals.

Sustainability

Environmental, economic, and social sustainability are important values at CSPI. We are committed to minimizing paper, ink, and impact on the environment. This includes using electronic exam copies and electronic proofs; printing only the books we need on demand; and printing most of our books and coursepacks on paper that is in accordance with current environmental standards prescribed by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). CSPI is also committed to meeting our current economic and social needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Praise for CSPI

"CSPI has always been a friend to me. A solid publication record with titles both informative and provocative has made it easy to adopt CSPI books for courses over the years. Better still, CSPI is small enough to provide prompt and courteous service when book orders or desk copies need to be rushed through by ‘yesterday.’ Best of all, I’ve enjoyed dealing with sales associates and book representatives who have proven unfailingly helpful and friendly."
Augie Fleras, Department of Sociology and Legal Studies, University of Waterloo

"I found the CSPI team to be professional and extremely responsive to my needs. I just sent them PDFs and they quickly compiled my coursepack – they took care of copyright, pagination, etc. They sent me proofs for inspection before going to final print. My students in Introduction to Sociology are now learning from my hand-picked readings rather than a rigid and univocal textbook. I highly recommend CSPI."
Patricia Cormack, Department of Sociology, St. Francis Xavier University

"I have used coursepacks created by CSPI for five years now. The reproductions are of an extremely high quality, and the service is exceptional. I could not be more pleased with the coursepacks from CSPI."
Garth Davies, School of Criminology, Simon Fraser University

"I've been thrilled with the service and products at CSPI—they've become indispensable to my teaching. The coursepacks themselves are beautiful—text is cleaned up, paginated, and the end result is very professional. CSPI is also extremely efficient, turning around my orders within just a few days."
Ilya Parkins, Gender and Women’s Studies, University of British Columbia (Okanagan)

"The people at CSPI have been very responsive and working with them hassle-free. I have used them for over six years now and know that with them the course reader production process is one less thing about which I have to worry."
Bill Magee, Department of Sociology, University of Toronto

"The CSPI coursepacks I have used for many years in my university teaching are reliable, affordable and perfectly suited to the pedagogical needs of my courses. The staff at the Press are professional, responsive and creative, working hard to ensure that orders, packaging and the delivery of materials are on schedule despite the varying demands made by clients. In our vastly changing publishing industry, CSPI is a leader and a highly valuable service."
Stephen Katz, Department of Sociology, Trent University
